A woman who reportedly drowned off the coast a Long Island beach had gone missing a day before she was discovered, over 20 miles away from where her body was found.
Sherica Douglas-Campbell, the 37-year-old Valley Stream woman recently identified as the woman found dead at Long Beach, had been reported missing to police on Monday, Sept. 4, according to Nassau County Police.
Douglas-Campbell was reportedly last seen alive just before 8 p.m. on that day in New Hyde Park.
The next morning, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Nassau County Police reported to the Lincoln Beach area of Long Beach, nearly 26 miles from New Hyde Park, after a call about a body in the water.
Douglas-Campbell's body was recovered from the water, and she was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
Her identity as the victim of the Lincoln Beach incident was released to the public on Thursday, Sept. 7. While it was originally investigated as a homicide, police now report that her death was a drowning and is not criminal.

Though the Valley Stream resident’s death was originally being investigated as a homicide, officials have now concluded that she drowned.
Her body was discovered on Tuesday, Sept. 5 in the Lincoln Beach area.
Just before 6:30 a.m. that day, officers responded to a call about a body in the water.
They recovered Douglas-Campbell’s body, and she was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
Additional information regarding her drowning, beyond police stating that it was not criminal, was not been released.
